I want to get a regional site listed in Yahoo. yahoo.com charges for submission, but asia.yahoo.com doesn't. Is it actually possible to get in free this way? Anyone try it?

I can't speak for Asian Yahoo, but in Europe it was until some weeks ago possible to get in for free. In fact there was no alternative - you could not pay.
Apart from that it's a question of the policy of the specific Yahoo you want to get into. Language, country-related content, TLD, those are the points to clarify.

The site is for an english, .com bed and breakfast in the USA. I made the submission and hope to get in, but I am very doubtful. I will add a message if I get in this way.

from the asia.yahoo site - "suggesting a site is free. You pay us nothing." For how long that will last of course is another question.

I had a look through the Business section of asia.yahoo and to be honest, most of the sites listed, even new ones, were not from Asia but seem to be drawn from the general Y database. So there would be no harm in trying a submission, as it will not cost you anything, you have nothing to lose.

Let us know the results.

Well... to my surprise... it actually worked. I got the site in and saved $299 + $299/yr.

glengara, I submitted through asia.yahoo.com and got my regional US site in.

zechariah, I kind of forgot about this submission and just checked it last night. It might have been in for a while now. I'm just glad it's in!

I have tried two of my sites via Yahoo India, which offers the free method. No luck yet but will keep everyone informed. I didnt notice that Asia Yahoo only offers the free listing and will use this one if my current attempts fail. It would be nice to get something for free when it seems all search engines and directories have their hands out.

Just submitted my site to Yahoo Singapore. I have also submitted my site to Yahoo India, Yahoo Asia, Yahoo Canada and Yahoo Canada (french language). Will see what happens.

I added my UK site to Asia Yahoo and it was added today, mind you to the wrong country i.e Ireland - but we cover both the UK and Ireland and I guess that is where they got the idea for Ireland. It took less than 4 weeks.

Excellent - thanks to who ever suggested the idea - some traffic already, but how much I will have to wait and see.
