Yahoo Rankings..

A little odd??

Usually when Yahoo updates, I go through the rankings of all of the sites that are doing better than mine so that I can see what they are doing that I'm not. This way I can determine what are the elements that are doing well and that Yahoo is liking more.

With this last update, I got really confused. Most of the sites that are doing better than mine have no reason why to be doing better.

Everything that they are doing, I am literally doing better, except some very minor things which normally wouldn't make a difference.

Anyone else experience anything like this?

Check Google PageRank. Many people disagree with my analysis over the past year - but I've been tracking ups and downs on over 100 sites. Dramatic ranking changes can be due to Google PageRank being added into the Yahoo algo.

I still maintain that the main thing for ranking well in yahoo is click pop. Do searches on really competitive terms. The sites that come up high are the ones people are likely to stay on longer. Quality design, extensive information, quick loading, etc.

i think you're both right. yahoo has been increasingly shifting away from "submission-based" ranking criteria.

I just checked our listing.

We went from #2 to #1 on the past week or two. That listing has all but disappeared down to somewhere in the 40's. If this stays that way I am going to pull my hair out.

The problem is the shifting of Google. I keep checking the PR of the site that has dropped in Yahoo. Fifteen minutes ago the PR was 0 and now it is back up to its normal 6. This is having influencing the negative effect within Yahoo!
