As of October 1st, anyone hosting a website through Yahoo Store has to pay 3.5% of all sales that are generated through the "Yahoo Network".. The Yahoo network includes any website ending with Yahoo.com. This would include the yahoo search engine, yahoo shopping, yahoo auctions, etc. etc.

I may be looking too far into my crystal ball, but...

Wouldn't it benefit Yahoo to list YAHOO STORE websites more prominently in the Yahoo search engine, since they are getting 3.5% of every sale through those sites ????

I haven't seen this happen yet, but i really believe it will happen. If this is the case, it would probably be well worth signing up for a Yahoo Store.

I would love to hear anyone elses thoughts on this new Yahoo Store policy.

I have a client with a Yahoo store and it ranks dead last for all the major search terms. It's a puzzler - I can't figure it out for the life of me at this point.

Yes, i agree. Some of the Y! Stores i promote don't rank well either right now. I have had to resort to mirror sites to rank these clients higher. But, i think that may change as far as the Yahoo Search Engine is concerned. It may take a month or two, but I really have a gut feeling that Yahoo is up to something with this 3.5% charge.

It is a definitely harder to promote a Y! Store. They take a lot of content tweeking out of your hands. For example, it's harder to get keywords into your URL's since they name your URL's for you. There are plenty of other restrictions also.

I have a Yahoo Store, too. I don't get hits from Yahoo.com. I agree that it would definitely be in the best interest of Yahoo to promote Yahoo Stores. I've written them about this and they replied that they are working on this.

New fees on Yahoo Store? You forgot the .5% for all sales, regardless of where they came from. Yahoo network sales are 3.5% + .5% = 4% of your sale price. Again, it would behoove Yahoo to promote us on Yahoo.com. Yes, they have the link to Yahoo Shopping on the Yahoo home page, BUT, what's wrong with Yahoo.com promotion, too? Are you listening Yahoo?

yeah, you are right about.05% ...

We will just have to wait and see what Yahoo does.
I have noticed a big increase in orders coming in from other peoples Y! Stores. Often times these stores are totally un-related to my products. I don't know if this is a mistake by Yahoo, or if Yahoo has started Cross-Advertising between Yahoo stores.

The other day, I got an order that Yahoo showed the Refferer as a Sword & Armor website. The particular store doesn't even have a link to me. When i contacted the customer, they told me that they got to my site via a GOTO.COM listing. I think this may have to do with Y! Stores use of Cookies.

Anyone elses explanation would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for letting us know about this 4crests.

I don't have a Yahoo Store, but have been thinking about it for a while now.

It would be a shame if they clutter their directory with the stores.

And welcome to WmW missreddy!
