Can a Company submit multiple sites to Yahoo:
- Each site in a different category.
- Each site with lots of quality content relevant to that category.
- Each site for a different product.
- Each site with the same company address.
?
If not, what are the options?

I have sucessefully done that in the past. Yahoo will gladly take all the money you throw at them if you have third level domains and process each of them as a unit.

keyword1.domain.com
keyword2.domain.com
keyword3.domain.com
keyword4.domain.com

They dont offer package deals. The good part is they included all subs for free for the French version of the site. Both in Y! France and Y! Canada Français.

Thanks Macguru
I was thinking of a different top level domain for each site e.g.
- keyword-keyword.com
- otherkeyword-otherkeyword.com
I thought this might be better in the long term - with other SEs etc

Any opinions?

That is even better Kapow!

If you have one site per product or service with sufficient content Yahoo have no objection. It will be better for SE because each site will focus on this product. I have a gut feeling that consumers query more directly for a product than for it's manufacturer or reseller.

If you have such budget, go for it!

How do you get around Yahoo's using your company name as your Yahoo title? Will they accept company "division" names tailored to that separate product, so long as that is the company name used throughout the site?

<How do you get around Yahoo's using your company name as your Yahoo title>

What are the Pros and Cons for using a different Company name? e.g.

+ Good alphabetic listing.
- Actual Company name is not Promoted.
+ Avoid multiple sites issues.

I submitted via e mail a list of URL in a very open manner and straight forward way. I was dreaming then of having some kind of volume discount. ;)

All titles are different, related to the topic and does not use the company name. As long they don't suspect you of trying to get more than one spot for the same keyword, you are OK I guess.

>>What are the Pros and Cons for using a different Company name<<

Keywords in a Yahoo title provide a huge boost in search... both in Yahoo itself when people search (most do) instead of dig down, and on Google, where I've seen a phrase match in a Yahoo title, all by itself propel a site into the top 10 on very competitive terms.

My experience with Yahoo, up till now, has been that the company name is the title, so if your keywords are not in the company name, you're at a huge disadvantage.

<so if your keywords are not in the company name, you're at a huge disadvantage>

So - is there any major reason why I shouldn't invent a company name: 'Keyword keyword Services'?

I would not recommend inventing anything. Do not forget y! has human editors. Now I will have to let it slip, just type "sympatico". go further down...

Tadadaaaa! Do you see keywords in title/company name?
Tadadaaaa! Do you see keywords URL?

Now type "Canada TollFree"
Tadadaaaa! Where does this lead?

Now type "Lottery Canada"
Tadadaaaa! Where does this lead? (first site match)

I see no need to put a company name in titles. The "lets make a deal" approach worked fine for this case.

Looks like Yahoo was more sympatico to Sympatico than they might be to most of us....

What can the rest of us do?

I am not saying this works all the time for everyone. Lets consider the following :

a)-Sympatico is the largest ISP in Canada
b)-The portal is constantly in the top 3 sites in Canada
c)-They pop at least 250 new pages a week
d)-They are partners with other big league players such as City Search and Lycos

So they are in position to break out of the submission form and open negociations with Y! No secret here, humans deal with humans.

I just heard that Yahoo might do a credit card check to see if two sites are by the same company

[webmasterworld.com...]

is this true?

I do work for different companies which sell more or less the same products and have yet to have any problem with yahoo about this. I'm sure that many webmasters also do work for companies that sell the same products. That having been said, it sure wouldn't hurt to use different CC numbers and accounts when possible.

However, when doing this with Looksmart they do compare email addresses so make sure a different address is used. The same CC has been used in Looksmart with no problem.

Thanks Eljefe3
It is amazing that Looksmart or Yahoo would create this problem.
I am a Web Designer and often create sites for similar companies - e.g. I am currently creating no less than 4 sites for different Event Management companies.

Does this mean that I must use different email addresses to be sure?

Hi Kapow,

I would suggest you do so. Try to keep all the variables as different as possible to the best of your ability. Different email address, whois information, credit card, content, backends, etc.

Most often you'll get away with having the same info. on some of these variables (like credit card #), but try to make the submissions as unique as possible to minimize the possibility of getting rejected.
