We've just re-launched a site that had become stale, it's got loads of genuine one-way links to it and Google has responded by spidering and indexing almost all of the site. A week after re-launch and we're getting a really good flow of traffic from Google.
However, Yahoo has just the homepage listed!
So, Google has spidered 4 levels deep and seen 2,500+ pages in the same time that Yahoo has managed to visit just the homepage (15 times), what gives?
I don't have much hair left to tear out, should I forget about Yahoo as we are doing so well in Google or are there things I could be doing to influence Slurp?
Thanks
How do you define a genuine one-way link?
A link that was given to our site by another because of the good content on it, not because we requested it or offered any incentive. Those links are still there, probably because people don't check their links. The site had been truly neglected, meaning that people will not have been linking recently.
How well do these sites rank in Yahoo, the sites that are giving you a link?
Not great, but there are thousands of them. Some are #1 for their niche but that's not difficult given their area of operation.
what do you mean by you relaunched it?...it was already out there right?....
Yes it was already out there, it was just tired. We cleaned it up, re-structured it and added new content too.
are you penalised in yahoo?...does your homepage come up for the domain name search without the extension?
Now that's an interesting question. We don't seem to be visible, I have no idea why. The word (minus the .com) is used by 10,000 other sites (it's 2 words stuck together). I hadn't thought to do that search before as I know Google well but not Yahoo.
Other stats:
We are now getting thousands of visitors from Google every day, but none from Yahoo. Yahoo still shows up every day and looks at the homepage, we do have the new homepage showing in the Yahoo index but nothing else.
Thanks for taking the time to reply.
