It took me a while - 10 months, it took a friends site around 2 months, make what you like of that?

We optimize for several clients. Some sites are quicker (2 months) than others (2 years - this is no joke). One of our clients stuck with us for over two years until they finally rank #1 in yahoo for their keywords.

Was there any significant differences between the sites?
cheers.

none really other than the frequency that links were being added.
the one that took two years was a slower process whereas the one that almost immediately showed up was heavily linked to

I have some different idea about this. The key factor to rank early or late is the targetted keyword. The more the competitive keyword the slower will be the process of ranking. Another factor is the amount of backlinks added to the site along with content over a period of time.

I've got a good, clean, content rich site which is still getting nothing but a trickle after 9 months. I'm doing great in MSN, getting much better in Google, but struggling in Yahoo. I've avoided most tit for tat link swaps and collected a good number of quality one ways. I think this has helped with google, but unfortunately seems to be required with Yahoo. I believe massive amounts of link exchanges and/or time is the way to crack yahoo.
