My site is 3 years old. For about a year it was performing great on MSN and Yahoo but only decent on Google.

At one point I changed the core code of my website to minimize code bloat. I also set each page up as if it were an outlined whitepaper using proper headings, paragraphs, lists, etc. Backlinks are stong and come from on-topic pages -- some recip, some 1-way. I have quite a few deeplinks.

I edited each page until they were all W3C standards compliant. I added non-spammy, descriptive titles to links and descriptive alt tags only when the image is a hyperlink.

I opened a topic blog that has been edited every week-day for 8 months now with unique and useful content and themed outbound links. The blog has an RSS feed that has been added to several My.Yahoo homepages.

I don't pay attention to keyword density and counting (that was 3 years ago!). I write natural and eye-appealing content mentioning my keywords where appropriate.

Since doing all this my Yahoo rankings have slid from #1 to #15. With the recent update, I fell from #15 to #25. Why does Yahoo! hate my site so much? Am I completely missing something?

Your frustration is shared by many and to be honest, Yahoo is doing a great job of hiding the workings of their algo.

I had it figured out a few months ago, then it changed, then it changed again.

Some of the core parts of the algo remain true, but parts are tweaked and completly changes the serps.

They have become the equal opportunity lister.

Thanks for the info. I'm not even attempting to figure out their algos... I'm working to make a solid website more solid and compliant.

Yahoo! needs to get their act together... the SERPs in my sector are absolutely horrible.

I feel your pain.

I tell myself that Yahoo doesn't much count anymore, since in my logs they don't. But that is probably as much a reflection of not being ablr to break through about #15 as anything else.

I rank top ten on literally hundreds of search terms in both G an MSN. Y has me baffled.
