well not much seen on my end, except for the very (stupid) easy to game algo of theirs ;)

in my own opinion the little guys but also poor designers and seo have plenty of room to achieve their goals with simpe tricks on Yahoo if they can wait long enough for the search engine to refresh.

yahoo ranks websites based on wrong assumptions and poor understanding of what quality sites are. /-- rant stops here --/ ;)

I think that they are too busy hand coding competitive keywords SERP to make any kind of significant improvement and I even think that all their budget goes into 'elsewhere' than research despites what they say or they better start questioning their recruitment procedures for good.

People can say what they want but IMO yahoo is a search engine (so called) that:

- penalizes based on wrong assumptions very often, more likely their algo is buggy and need a complete make over
- ranks some websites based very basic criteria that other modern search engines balance with real popularity / quality factors and they do it for the best
- hand code competitive searches which is a sign of weakness
- is unable to (re)index websites while wasting bandwidth with their frenzy bot crawls which is definetely very very stupid

The whole thing about yahoo drives me mad because i used to believe that they would do good and I was hoping that they would balance Goo monopoly more efficiently but finally they leave it to MSN.

I can tell by your posts that you dont rate Yahoo, yet imo the results overall from Yahoo currently are the best ive seen from them in years.

Now thats from an objective angle. We have some sites that rank in Yahoo and some that just dont for what ever reason but over all they have come a long way. Doorways are gone, spam sub,sub,sub-domains are gone, some great authority sites showing, the index is very clean which is a first imo for Yahoo.

Maybe im looking at hand coded sectors in the UK, i dont know but currently the top ten for results in a volume of searches ive done on Yahoo include all the sites that i would expect to be listed - that makes them the most relevent by my book.

Anyway, look at the mess Google is in (we have one site in Google that has been absolutely trashed due to this supplemental bug issue)and the cr@p thats currently rising to the top of Google due to the problem is amazing. This BD update could kill google imo the way they are going. As for MSN, dont make me laugh i could knock together a spammy 20 page junk site and have it ranking 1 for major keywords within about 7 days - msn serps are a write off.

Currently i dont think Yahoo have a problem when compared to the other two - they are out performing them in terms of quality.

Yahoo seems to be doing the trick of dropping lots of pages for a while like they have on previous updates....

Yes it does look like very dance-like.

As noted by Dayo_UK we have seen missing pages before during an update.

I don't recall it lasting quite as long as this before, just a few days.

Where as this time I first started noticing the flipping/dance behaviour near the begining of last month (I think) a number of weeks ago now anyway.

Funny enough the missing pages I was seeing was only on the Saturday morning UK time - by the afternoon all was well again.

Might be a case of hitting a certain Yahoo Data Center (I believe they do have Data Centers).

Yes, thats what I see, different time of the day, differing number of results returned and my site either there or not there about 50/50.

I first noticed this around 3-4 weeks ago.

What you are seeing is yahoo's second data center. They have only 2 whilst google has many :)

Occasionally you see the second data center. They have been doing this for months but always revert to the stale old data center that has been there for months.

I really dont see where see witness any update, nothing major is going on with this enigne for months (or more).

They dont even really refresh their index, it's like a dead engine, looks like altavista before they bought it.

If they would have both something really new and really good, they would have to rewrite their whole algo IMO. :)

Yep, they did some major tweaking. I was just on there less than 24 hours ago sorting through major mess. The mess is gone...well most of it.

I am seing some sites that got kicked reappearing in the main set of serps . The alternative serps that i reported seem only to be showing on a minority data center ( only one computer can see them in our office).

looks like a tweak of the age knob imo,

Some newer sites we were working on that are six months old have been knocked back they had positions before

Overall, Yahoo serps look very good imo
