Just did a search [search.yahoo.com] and got slightly different style of results page.

There is a Show by relevance [search.yahoo.com] option which ranks yahoo sites rather than grouping them by category. Looks a lot more like a Google result layout.

Is this new or is it something that I have missed?

Must have been a temporary test... I can't see it anymore.

Looks new to me-- Yahoo now returns category matches, then lists site matches from its directory, then website matches from Google.

The "show by relevance" option is to organize Yahoo's site matches list. This will probably make Yahoo's data more usable and adds a layer on top of the Google results.

I don't see this! I haven't noticed any differences in the Serps I check. Where is this option? I looked at other Serps and still can't see it.

I had a good look at it and I think that by viewing it in relevance order and not in direcotry listing order, we can come close to seeing how they rank sites.

I was looking at a few search terms and they are ranked much differently via relevance than just directory listings as perhaps 10-15 are lumped into one category, but in relevance rankings they can differ widely.
