Webmaster Suggested I Pay $300 for Y Directory

But I'm Still Not Ranking for my One Word Keyword Phrase

I'm the site owner. My webmaster suggested that all I pay for if I was going to pay for search engines, was Yahoo.

Paid my 300 bucks, and got seemingly no advantage (as promised).

My URL ends in .us but the search word I want hits on is <WIDGETS>. All I get for pages and pages is <WIDGETS RED>, <WIDGETS WHITE>, <WIDGETS BLUE>, and used stuff.

Any ideas on how I can get Yahoo to put a support and encouragement site above the used materials guys?
