So, yesterday I solved this canonical problem by redirecting my site. Today, when I checked main keyword rank, it lost 30 positions from 7 to 37.
If search engines suppress redirected sites, nobody will dare to redirect and lose their site traffic. Then what is the use of "301"?
Can anyone comment on this? How can I get back my rank in Yahoo!. Please help me.
Are you sure you did the 301 redirect correctly?, Did you do anything else at the same time?
We instituted a site-wide 301 redirect from domain.com to www.domain.com about two months ago and it had no affect on our ranking in any of the engines, in fact, it seems to have helped us in Google.
I am very much sure about the redirection. It was done perfectly. By the way, I thank you for assuring that redirection is not the cause.
Suddenly Sara,
I will make sure to use www. Thanks.
One more change is, the IP of the site had been moved to another. Will this affect ranking positions? What are the after affects of moving a site from one IP to the other? Your suggestions are really helpful.
I owe very much to the knowledge bank of webmasterworld and their members.
