RANKED 1ST! but where are the hits

i dont know if im allowed to tell you what i am ranked first for. I dont want this to get thread banned.

well lets just say widgets! Im ranked out of 53,000,000

buy widgets

for me thats huge because its like for example

buy art
buy clothes
buy shoes

etc,

but the problem is im not getting any hits from it... how can i be first in the world for it in yahoo and not get really any hits?

Could be the terms are just not very popular or that Yahoo is not a popular search engine for those terms.

Could also be related to the description that appears along with your link. If it looks too spammy or seems off target, it might not attract attention.

Could also be that a neighbor nearby result is just so attractive, it pulls away from you.

If you want to sticky me with an example, I'd take a look. Sometimes the owner is just too close to see a problem.

Yes same with my site too i rank well for many keywords 1st in yahoo but i am not getting any hits from yahoo while #*$! shows more than 5000 hits for 24 hrs can anyone give me the possible reason

Wake up call for all noobs, just cause Overture says there is 100,000 searches for a keyword doesn't really mean that there is. Bots and SEOs looking up keywords probably generate 40% of all searches on the OV keyword tool (for major terms). I suggest you use Wordtracker and expect the worse.
It is a hard lesson to learn, don't go after just one keyword, go after thousands, it's the only way you'll make a living at SEO. If you expect to get 1000 searches a day, cut that in half and don't hold your breath.

We had a similar situation - #1 on both Google and Yahoo for the same word - and it is a good one. Google produced 10 times more traffic. I think Google has a much bigger part of the search pie than the official numbers say - Yahoo may have more people using more services, but people search with Google - 10 to 1 in my opinion.

Same for me, it's all about demographics.

Stats say Google has about 60% of the market I believe, on some of my sites it can be as high as 97%

I have superb rankings on Y and MSN but the traffic is not worth talking about, or even considering.

In my area if you don't rank well in Google you are, effectively, not on the internet!

I don`t totally agree with the No Google Listings = Zero Traffic people here. I do well with some domains on Yahoo and MSN and they do convert well. Google is the best though, but the others can produce too.

mrwhy2k= so what is your opinion about the pyramid theme. I think its a pretty great idea. and many people have applied it to their websites without even ever seeing this pyramid.
I showed this pyramid to my web designer/sem and he says yes there are many legitimate points to it but where it is VERY wrong is that the front page has little rating or value. This is where I agree with him. My front page is literally the main point of traffic. I havent even done this on purpose but that is how it is.
Trust me I would prefer each of my 1,000 pages to receive a few hits each then my front page only receiving 150 a day. It would be way better!

I did come to the conclusion the the keyword phrase I was/am ranked number one in only receives small hits a day, actually overture says about 200. BLAH

I guess i need to really start working on my content and title/descriptions for each page, just like the pyramid,, no magical way about it... but i guess we all already knew that eh.

The current yahoo problem is they are filtering results based on your settings, IP (ISP) and you choices as well.

I have 5 different set of results on my five computers I have tried checking with proxy IP's but again it was same with no matching in all computers results.

One thing I noticed ..... If you want to check latest results for US just go and check for "additional listings" on OVERTURE.COM

Waddy -
Optimize all your pages and make sure you have incoming links with strong anchor text going to all the secondary pages within the site. If every page of your site has 100 incoming external links, you'll have a better chance of getting more rankings in Yahoo and Google. Your homepage will only get you halfway, the secondary pages will get you the other half.
(Or… just make 1000 websites and optimize each homepage for one or two kws…choose your poison)
