I got a client's Site ranked top 10 for several search phrases on Yahoo in a very competitive inducstry once they accepted my description change request. For 3-5 days we enjoyed great rankings but suddenly were pushed to the very bottom along with a few other Sites in our cat.

Some of these sites at the bottom with us actually have more link pop then we do (we don't have any yet)so that does not seem to be the issue. I have yet to get a reply from Yahoo on this...anyone have any ideas about what's going on? The site was accepted and ranked well for a brief time, this is what has me baffled...

Hi Hunter, I've been noticing this exact same trend.

Yahoo seems to be giving new sites a temporary boost in rankings, and then drops them. I started seeing this about a week ago.

I don't know what's going on, but it might be tied in with the fact that their "suggest a site" and "sponsored sites" pages are down? Whatever's brewing, I don't like it.

Hi Hunter and 2_much,

One of my recently submitted websites jumped to the top after a couple of weeks for some really good search phrases(usual behaviour), then dropped it 2 days ago around the time of the Yahoo submission problem.

I'm not sure if it's connected. Lets hope its temporary.

2_much & ukwp,

...thanks for the replies, I've been keeping an eye on a new site in my cat to see if it follows this trend, I'll keep you posted.

Yahoo seems to have changed the way they list sites.

Depending on the searched keywords, Yahoo now first lists all the categories with that keywords and after the categories, the web sites; few days ago it was a mix of category listing and web pages. It means that now you face more competitors.

Hi angiolo,

I see what you mean. FWIW my predictament and what I'm speaking about in this thread has little to do with this new format, although I agree other changes were probably implemented as well. What I am witnessing is more obscure than that and thus harder to identify. My keywords in those areas had me positioned fine and where I should be in relation to the competition, but I now have been pushed to the the bottom with a few other sites that were also ranking well while others have remained.

Hi Hunter,

I agree - I had top placements for many good keywords (also in a good category). The site is now listed at the end of all related results.

Other websites in the same category have not suffered such a fate, and I can see no logical explanation as yet.

I am starting to think that it has been deliberatly rated lower. Not much I can do - except wait. Could be a long wait.

Let's hope not UKWP...

I have yet to identify the reasons via deeper research and Yahoo has told me nadda, apparently thinking that I would find generic e-mails enlightning...
