I just want to ask everyone why I immediately made it to no.1 with Yahoo search results with my own keywords despite massive competition from paysites (mine is free) which also optimize their pages with the keyword "free". What is Yahoo's basis? Do they check the sites submitted to them one by one? Well, whatever they're doing over there, it must be good!
I didn't bother exchanging link with other sites which is a basis of other search engines by counting it as a vote by other sites for your site. But since it can be faked because any webmaster can spend all his time exchanging links with other sites and get all those "votes" even if his site is irrelevant.
I have two inbound links from two other sites I have. Each of the sites only has a few pages but they are over 6 years old.
There is no alt tag stuffing, hidden text or rss feeds or any other fake page generating tricks. Just a 3 page blub I wrote about the product. I was very careful to keep the keyword density below 3% though.

Because your keyword phrases are not well trafficked. Fifty visits per day is small for number one. Many people won't bother optimizing for that phrase so it makes more sense to simply bid on Overture/YSM and forget about it. These kinds of phrases can be relatively easy to optimize for. So that's why you immediately made it to number one.
There could be other factors like, if your domain name has the keywords in them, etc. that are helping. Your experience is not uncommon, especially for longer tail searches.
It's a bit more difficult to rank for highly contested searches.
