So as anticipated Yahoo! is starting their limited beta of their new 'advanced' email. Here's my take on it after using it for most of today:

It's more like using Outlook than using the 'old' Yahoo! mail. They use PHP and a ton of JavaScript to make it look and work more like a desktop application than a web page.
Basically I like it but there are a couple annoying things.
For example, dragging the 'right bar' in the message view to view more message subjects, or clicking below it to see the next page of messages, can result in a temporary 'freeze'.
Also I still think they need to add the option to search junk mail so I can figure out if people/companies that I'm expecting to send me mail (but I haven't yet added to any white list) got spam-binned.
Also, the constant page loading is really annoying. I understand that it's that way so I can get new messages as they arrive, but it sub-consciously bothers the heck out of me to see the page loading constantly! Don't know that there's any way around that though.
I do really like the way that I can se searches in 'other tabs' instead of other windows.
I also like the 'preview pane' option as opposed to opening up a new window (which sometimes took forever or failed with the old Yahoo! mail ;) ), ahh and I just noticed that if I do double-cllick a message it opens a new tab.... nice.

Anyone else seeing this yet? I pay for the 'premium' mail service which means they are beta testing it on paying customers first I guess...

I use their subscription mail as well, but have yet to see this new version.

>> Also I still think they need to add the option to search junk mail

They need to re-add that feature. They used to have it.

I pay for yahoo mail and would like to see this new version come out soon. I am hoping its faster than the old yahoo mail. My Yahoo mail runs very slow and I wished they would get more servers or double the fibers connected to it or something!

I can think of two features Yahoo! Mail used to have that it should re-introduce:

1) When composing, the ability to switch on and off the viewing of HTML source.
2) The ability to decide, on an email by email basis, whether you want to save an email to your Sent folder.

When I complained re 1, I received the following reply:
"In an effort to provide you with a better streamline interfaced, we have
removed the "View HTML source" checkbox on the compose page. We
apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you."

lol directrix. Don't feel too bad though, I recently had a Senator send me a response letter on the wrong topic.

Looking in the new compose interface I don't see a 'view html source' button or the option to save to sent or not on a per email basis :/

tictoc, I've found working with the new interface is faster, if only because of the preview pane and the fact that new tabs are opened to view, compose, search, etc instead of whole new windows.

I'm still liking it in spite of the fact that there's a couple funny things going on with the JavaScript. Like in Firefox sometimes when I'm typing a message and hit the ' key it sends me into the 'find' text mode in firefox...
