I am a newbie so forgive me if
this may sound stupid. But I have been bangin my head about how to get into yahoo ( I am not really up on spending the $199).

One idea off the top of my head to help in this quest might be to put in a yahoo search box.

What do guys think ? would help give me a leg up ?

would they give extra points for it ? Or would it not matter to the editor ?

The_Cynic,

Plenty of people seem to have trouble getting into Yahoo. Concentrate on creating unique content that people in your industry/ies would benefit from. There are no "magic bullets" like adding a search box that will get you into Yahoo. What will get you in is simply giving them what they ask [help.yahoo.com] for.

Welcome to the forums, Cynic.

You didn't say when you last submitted your site. If you don't pay the cash, it does take a while for your submission to be looked at.

This is how I have figured it out: most Yahoo editors are up to their teeth in submissions, and it is all they can do to get the paid submissions reviewed.

Patience and timely submissions are the to getting your site into Yahoo. Yahoo says not to submit more than once every 8 weeks. If you get frustrated and submit every hour/ day/ week, they will ban your url altogether.

Yahoo knows it is the biggest fish in the directory ocean. They flaunt that fact and they know they don't have to deal with anything they don't want to. Play by their rules.

Print off their directions and FOLLOW THEM PRECISELY. Editors don't tell you you didn't follow the process, they just ignore you. Also remember to look at the quality of your site. Make it fast to download and give it a clean look. Fix broken links and check spelling. Make sure you can put your site in that particular category.

I had one url I couldn't get into Yahoo to save my soul. I found out later that I was not allowed to put this url, which was a shopping site, into any other cat than the business and economy. That was a frustrating 4 month lesson to learn, let me tell you.

Remember: a Yahoo editor is going to look for every reason *not* to allow your site into the directory.

These are incredibly busy people, and it is much easier to delete an email than to actually do anything with it. Note: This is G's personal hypothesis...I don't have contacts at Yahoo to confirm this.

I am sure a Yahoo search box won't hurt your chances either, but unless you get to the top of the stack of emails, a Yahoo editor won't know if you have their search box on your site or not.

Good luck! I wish I had a better answer for your question. Please post back here with any results!

Actually Yahoo says not to submit more than once every two to three weeks.
8 weeks is a real long time between submissions.

Thanks for all the advice. I really do appreciate it.

I am going back over all the details of the submission process with an eye towards giving them exactly what they want.

Oh, on a page I read about submision faqs it said apps every two to three weeks were okay, but I read somewhere else that once a month is about optimal.

Thanks for the bit on getting the category right too, I will have too check that again also.

Cheers !!

The closest you can get to a guarantee from the 'hoo is to folk out the review (bribe) fee. Even then, they don't guarantee anything - just that someone will look at the site. Sorry, a Yahoo search box won't do you much good.
