Instant Yahoo indexing

Once indexed, how long before a site starts ranking?

It seems like all of my pages are added to the Yahoo index within a couple of days or usually in the same day... (much better than Google)

But, my question is this:

Since my pages are being indexed so often, when should I expect the changes to reflect in the searches for my target keywords?

Is it random like Google or more dynamic?

Not long. A week or so.

I think this depends in some degree to the size of your site also... Mine take anywhere from 2 to 3 weeks, but the site I am referring to is also over 15K pages, so if I add another more relevant page, I have to wait for Y! to notice that the page is more relevant than any page that may currently be ranking.

I normally notice the less relevant page drop from the SERPs about a week before the new page replaces it, which holds with the 1 week stated above, but sometimes it takes time for my internal pages to get sorted out before things get to this point.

Yahoo has only indexed one of our pages. Google and eventually MSN hundreds. I'm gradually hearing more and more people reporting the same thing.

The only one page indexed is a new site, right? I'm seeing the same thing with two new ones. New pages on an existing site are a different story, those get picked up right away and can rank quickly.

Hemeno, are you talking about new pages on a brand new site or a site that's already been in Yahoo for a while?

These are new pages on an existing site. The site has been active for about 4 years, but I haven't added any new pages for at least 3. Now that I have restarted the project, all of the pages are indexed in yahoo in a matter of days.

Google on the other hand....only the main page has been indexed.

Btw, I think it is safe to say that search engines will search an entire directory for html and php files; even if the files aren't linked anywhere. I guess I need to be careful with testing pages. (This is probably common knowledge to most of you)

I am amazed how quickly Yahoo picks up and indexes pages on an existing site.

Best SE out there at the moment (IMO)

Yahoo's very quick on new pages if it's an existing site. MSN indexes and ranks new sites in less than a month - but with Yahoo it's only been the index page indexed on new ones after over a month. If I weren't reading about others experiencing the same thing I'd suspect that there's a problem with the IP or the host they're on.

Once Yahoo gets going, they're right up to the minute on it, though rankings don't necessarily happen for a bit on the new pages.
