Hey All,

We have a dilemma with a client of ours. They have over 20,000 pages and never done SEO. They are not ranking that well and could do better, but those most of those pages are indexed.

Should we:
1. Optimize 25 pages – based on which has the strongest content – and help with meta tags, titles, strengthening content, how will they link to the other part of the site
2. Do a trusted feed program, where we can optimize the titles, description etc given to Yahoo for the trusted feed program

Any thoughts? Pros v. Cons? Experience?

A feed provides more stability and faster results. Will the client make more money paying per click and getting more traffic or with no guarantee of traffic and no click costs? You might consider a feed for now and then work on optimization in preparation to drop the feed.

If there is any data in the database you can pull into the titles and descriptions, that should help with the free listings.

In order to produce the feed optimized data still needs to come from somewhere. Just putting unoptimized data into the feed probably won't generate much traffic.

If those pages are indexed, it's not a spider issue. If you're getting indexed you just need to improve the ranking. I'd spend the feed money elswhere. 20K pages can't all be landing pages. Focus on the landing pages and spend the money rewriting the titles and content and two seconds for comma seperated keywords.

Avoid duplicate content and get some links pointing to a focused group of landing pages.

I think that's where your money is best spent. Trusted feeds do not boost rankings. Good SEO does.
