Yahoo! Launching New Search Index Tonight

"This is our second weather report. We will be making changes to the index tonight so you should be seeing more of your pages in the index as well as some fluctuations in the rankings of results from previous searches."

I for one love this open approach that Yahoo have opted for. Tim (if you're reading this) you are definitely scoring points.

It's about time they did something with the indexing.
I have pages that are years old that are not listed in Yahoo.
They don't even play in the same league as google!

I just checked on 60 kws that were dropped on June 11th.

They are still not showing up in the first 1,000 SERPs.

Keeping my fingeres crossed that the update is still underway ;)

I think it hasn't started yet. Yahoo would be using PST, so given that I'm in the UK the update should just be getting underway.

Hmm, I was hoping to move up.

I really don't think the new results are out there yet. I've got an unusual topic that I wrote about and it's got top rankings on MSN and Google (because I'm the only person that took the time to write a detailed article on the subject).

That page used to be #1 on Yahoo too up until June 13th. It's in the index so I think this update has not happened yet. (fingers crossed).

Oh by the way.It is true there is a new index,Slurp crowls madly indexing thousands of pages that where published just a few days ago, while googlebot is tyred ,unlubricated,broken and confused.

my rankings have stayed consistent so far. maybe nothing has happened yet, but I interpret tim's comments that the index (aka pages included) is increasing and not a change to the algorithm. I don't expect major changes based upon this as the impact on rankings will be limited to the impact of the new pages included within the index.

I'm seeing no differences yet ... Site is well indexed in Yahoo, and still being crawled, but not appearing in SERPs since last week ...

How can one compare what was yesterday and today after the changes.

I did not keep track of my yahoo rankings.

I don't see changes yet. I saw the "weather report" on the Yahoo Blog yesterday and documented all the rankings for my keywords so I would have something to compare it with.

So far no changes.

For established sites, I wouldn't expect we will see vast changes in majorly competitive keyword areas. What they've done is included more deep links which had not previously been indexed.

These aren't high traffic pages, so I don't expect to see high traffic returned. Nor would I expect to see any wild fluctuations in ranking in the major keyword areas. But it is nice to see that people will be able to find what they are looking for when searching for some of the more obscure and less competitive phrases.

If that is what this update was about and if I assume that the update did occur, then Yahoo screwed up again because it is not working.

I am seeing more pages in the index today, but nothing more than I've seen in the past (with the numbers bouncing daily).

The SERPs I follow dont seem to have moved at all.

Something is going on right now, but it is a BIG mess, the ugliest I have ever seen.

Hotels sites have BIGGG changes.

We used to #1 in many cities for city hotels, hotels city, hotels in city.

Now city hotels has been changed totally! still show up for all the other searches but the real money keywords have been changed. Very naughty taking out all the people ranking for hotels.
