I typed in the domain names of his existing site, one of my own where I have an idea of how many people link to it and the domain name of the brand new site I'd just launched for him.
The first two showed the links results I expected spread over Altavista and MSN but the new site which in theory nobody yet links to had thousands of Alltheweb links.
Thinking it was a fluke I tried a couple of other virgin domains of mine that were Overture high ranking keyword rich and they also scored very highly in Alltheweb but nowhere else.
I then tried another known domain of mine which showed predictably low overal results.
I also tried a top ranking web site for known keywords but the overal number of links meant that my virgin keyword rich domains where being hyped solely by the Alltheweb results.
#1 Does this make the domain names with lots of inbound links from Alltheweb valuable in SEO terms?
#2 Does Allthewebs takeover by Overture affect that?
#3 What can/should I do to make the most of the inbound links that come from 'I know not where'?
I am assuming that as the virgin sites have no content and seem to be be being linked to by Alltheweb entirely on high scoring Overture keywords in the domain names, that the Alltheweb links won't count for much in other search engine's algorithms.
Nevertheless I would like to understand all this if anyone has the answers.
Search engine promotion is till a bit of a dark art in my eyes but I am keen to learn more.
