There is a serious problem with Yahoo's index and it is probably about time that Yahoo does something about it. If you look at the last series of post you'll notice it isn't the topical ranking problems that we usually see. Instead all the problems mentioned are how do I get re-included in Yahoo's index. In March of 2004, I warned Yahoo of a serious problem where redirecting script links cause problems for its robot. Legitimate sites were being dropped because many directories use these types of links (now including Yahoo itself). In my now case I submitted about 40 client sites to these types of directories long before I realized there was a problem and now all of them have been almost dropped.

Let me explain what I mean by "almost dropped". Now only the index page shows and if you do a search for the exact title which should show the sites first you see these directory links and sites that show past serps for particular keyword phrase, then after all that you'll see the actual site.

I believe the problem is growing and more sites are being affected. Because I had posted in the past about this problem I have receiving sticky mails and regular emails about the problem. I believe it is affecting thousands of web sites. The script link cause may not be the only thing that causes the problem, as I said I have noticed that affected sites always have links from the types of sites that just show serps.

This problem is annoying because in every case the sites are not banned just missing in action. If you tell Yahoo of the problem they just tell you everything is fine and your site is not banned.

What is Yahoo doing to resolve this issue?
What can webmasters do if their sites are affected?
Does Yahoo have a special form to address it's growing problem?

Many thanks :)

Where did you E-mail at. I am having the same trouble so I just went back 7 days and copied the index design back to my index. All I did was add another picture and more content , then I was dropped! I was on page one WAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.

Changing it back will work? When will they re crawl the websites? Any help please?

"There is a serious problem with Yahoo's ...."

I totally agree - I was quite surprised at the seriousness or extent of the problem its hard not to notice that most of the threads in this particular forum deal with penalties and reinclusion.

I too would like to hear about what they are doing to fix the problem. I have no use for canned reponses - I want results not excuses.
