I have seen this before, that the index page is not shown in the popular search, but a internal page shows up, as if the index page has lost power/importance. Why is this happening I dont know, maybe a little flux or a little bug Im not sure.

It most be logical that a search for main keyword of a site, does not bring up the sites sitemape but the index page

Yes I've wondered about this since so many people have reported inner pages of sites being listed but a vanishing index page.

There are more ways for a homepage to get into trouble. ;-)

My experience is this sometimes happen as they rollout an algorithym update and several days later that home page will achieve prominence and some of the interior pages will lose ranking.

Hmm still dont know way the hompage has sudently lost ground I think I have seen this before on yahoo and all the intenal pages are there where they used to be.

Its just a little bad SE style, if they type in my main keyword then a my sitemape comes up instead of the homepage, but as said before I have seen this before and after sometime its back to normal.

They realy have there troubles with index pages, sometimes thats the only thing that is listed other times its gone.

Send me an example of this and I can look into this. We obviously dont want root pages disappearing from the index and I would be interested in looking into what is going on.

This just happened to me recently. My site index disappeared from google, couldn't find it all. In it's place an inner page would come up in the search but way down in the rankings (45 vs 5). When I did a site:mydomain.com search all the links appeared but no description or title. This situation lasted about a week!

The weird thing is that many pages that did not have page rank began to start showing rank. The rank would range from 0-4 depending upon what data center that it was pulled from I guess. The rank on the inner pages started showing more consistently for the past couple of days and then today my site index page began appearing at the exact rank that it did before.

Scared me to death because my sales died, traffic didn't really but now things are back to normal.

Keeping my fingers crossed.

Today I see my index site where it should be again, but still I would like to know why that happens.

No site reviews, please- this isn't a drop in clinic for banned websites.

This seems to happen anytime someone tries to talk about banned websites. Let's talk about the symptoms and not the patient.

Thanks.
