If a Site is Ranking Well in Yahoo - Is it Worth it to Add Site to Y Directory?

Or Should $300 be Allocated Elsewhere?

I have a site that I was thinking about adding to Yahoo Directory ($300).

However, it is in Yahoo search and on one nice phrase--#3.

Since the site is in the search, is it even worth the effort adding to the directory?

I know it could add a nice link for SEO reasons but that $300 could buy about 8 directory listings elsewhere.

Are those 8 directory links going to be better than Yahoo Directory in terms of weight by the major SE? Rule of thumb I'd say no but I don't know what directories you are talking about. Yahoo Directory IMHO should be a staple purchase for link buildng.

Other more experienced folk, might have a different opinion. This is just MHO.

My sites are not in the directory and do very well in Y! SERPs, beat out sites in the directory most of the time.

For me it's not a worthwhile investment.

Do people still use the Y! directory?

They have some things buried in such bizarre and obscure places sometimes you have to use the search just to locate the directory category in the first place!

OK, try this simple thing: LET IT EXPIRE AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS.

If you have a negative result, pay Yahoo to put it back.

I got my site on the directory for years and I dont get anything real out of it, as long you are not also included in the yahoo search its not worth it and a little warning sometimes you are only represented by a url only on yahoo search, that also dont give you anything.

While there is an argument to the fact that if you already have the rank then why spend the money, we are talking about 300 dollars for listing in one of the best and widely referenced directories on the web.

The value goes well beyond the distribution value of the directory itself or even how Y uses it in their algo. In G's terms and conditions they tell you explictly to submit to DMOZ and Y directory.

If we are talking about whether to spend the 300 on this versus other directories, again IMO you'll be hard pressed to find a better source.

Wait a min, is it still $300.00 a year or is it $300.00 a year plus .30 a click?

Clicks don't cost anything. You are confusing the Directory with Site Match.

Submit your site to the Yahoo Directory. It is one of the most authoritative, prestigious links you can receive. Plus, you get 7 other links on the international Yahoos.
