Does the Biz Express really bring traffic?

Yahoo has been good to me, but that's because of Google

Hey guys,
Now that I've done the LS submit, I figure I should get the other big paid submit out of the way, but I have a few questions. In your Yahoo traffic, does the majority of it seem to come from Yahoo directory matches, web site matches or web pages? Also, will my Biz express title and description influence my Yahoogle listings in any way? Finally, just wanted to make sure, a Yahoo listing is good for link popularity, correct? Thanks for reading :)

My Yahoo! listing brings me most of my traffic, but, I'm fortunate to have a good listing on it. I really never did a study as to whether directory, web page or web site, but I think mostly directory. I don't know the answer to the rest of your questions, except I believe a Yahoo listing is good for link popularity, it shows up in my checks with Google AltaVista, etc.

Justin, the listing is worth *a lot.* However, your site and business is so distinctly local, including the domain name, that I think I would first try submitting through the appropriate local category. It can't hurt to try.

Justin - I've seen numerous examples of sites ranking very high on Google in very competitive categories basically because the target phrases are included in the Yahoo or ODP title.

For both directories, though, the guidelines for commercial sites say that the directory title is restricted to the business name. I've found that these guidelines aren't always applied, usually when I check why a competitor is doing well on a phrase for which there's no on page support.

Marcia - Are local categories still free on Yahoo? It's been so long since I've tried one that I don't know.

Justin,

Would you count US$ 24,500.00 in 2 days as good income from Yahoo?

Robert, I just read a couple of posts on a crafters list that said it worked. Unverified, but the link is there outside of the shopping category.

Justin, one of my sites is well established and has been promoted for several years. I was never been able to get it into Yahoo with a free submit, not sure why, and gave up when the paid submit came on the scene. As a result, I've never bothered to submit any of my other sites.

I finally spent the $199 on the first site simply because so many folks here at WmW indicate Yahoo is such a great source of traffic and I was curious. It's been a disappointment to me. I saw a nearly immediate and significant boost in Google and Yahoogle rankings and appreciate THAT extra traffic, but still see little direct Yahoo traffic. It's been listed just over a month now. So far, I'm thinking a guy can still do pretty well without Yahoo.

Vishal

I'd count that as good income from Yahoo but bad advertising/spamming on WMW.

Hunter,

I am extremely sorry, if I gave out an reputation that I was spamming. I felt like that Justin is not sure if traffic from Yahoo is worth spending money or not, and I myself belive in numbers!

Hunter, Vishal was probably simply relating what he heard someone had made with a Yahoo listing. Sometimes it's hard to know a person's intentions in just the few words of a board post.

Vishal, can I ask you what type of a product it was (not necessarily specifically). Was it a gambling or adult site, or selling consumer products or services? Was it a high ticket item?

That's a very unusual amount for a site to make in a couple of days. I'm sure some do, but it's probably unrealistic for most people to expect it.I'd be curious to know the general category.
