We submitted to the yahoo directory a way back in 99. Our listing (the ONLY time we ever used this lingo) was:

ourcompanyname, our product, version 2000
description to match 2000 version.

It STILL shows up number one! We don't want the darn thing anymore because it talks about outdated software. We've contacted Yahoo and they say that it's no longer possible to edit the old directory listings, and there was nothing they could do about it.

Anyone have any ideas? (don't say change our URL haha)

Thanks.

Pay 'em $299 and I bet they'll edit it for you! Or at least give you a new listing...

Do you rank in the organic search for your updated pages, or only for the Directory listing? The way to tell the difference is that an organic result will have a dynamic description (depending on the search query) and the title will match your title tag.

If you rank in the organic listings for the search terms you want, than I wouldn't worry about the old directory listing.

I do rank in the natural listings, but always after this one. I guess it's not really hurting anything, but it's SO out of date the boss wants to get rid of it.

And I thought they 86'd the $299 directory w/ sitematch.

They still have Yahoo Express - $299 guaranteed review/probable inclusion in Directory. Sitematch is just paid inclusion - doesn't guarantee your ranking, just your inclusion in the organic results. Waste of money IMHO.
