Inktomi is trying to index very strange pages from my site. It requests filenames which have NEVER existed on the site before, and wich I am very sure of that nobody is referencing them from the outside.
The requested files have names like "slayer.htm", "albums.htm" or "sedocum.htm" - all requested within less than half an hour between them, but from different IP-addresses (which all resolve to inktomisearch.com). During the same period, regular pages were requested as well.
So where (and why) does Inktomi comes up with these strange pages?
Are the page names that you mention even remotely related to your topic. If so, there seems to be a correlation with my situation.
What I mean is, internet access is realted to my web site, even though I've never had such a page. When I posted on it here at WW, nobody had a definate answer.
Inktomi has a history of not "believing" 404s and requesting them for years after.
Anyhow, it might be worth taking a look in the Internet Archive site and seeing if there was a previous owner of the domain.
no, the requested files are not even remotely connected to the content of the site (I don't even know what "sedocum" might be...).
And - no - we own the domain for many years. The wayback-machine lists our first webpages for '98 and we run the domain even longer. And since I'm in charge for all internet activities since '93 I'm very sure these pages NEVER existed.
The cloaking-theory sounds interesting. Another theory might be that they are looking for music-piracy. At least "albums.htm" sounds like it, and "slayer.htm" sounds a bit like it too. However "sedocum" seems to be something French - at least a web query brings lots and lots and lots of French links.
