Getting spiders to skip parts of the page

Is there a way to tell spiders not to index part of a page?

I know you can tell spiders to stay away from pages or directories, but is there a way to get them to skip sections of a page, but to index the rest?

Excluding part of a page is not supported by the robots exclusion protocol.

Could try converting that part of the text to an image -

or use an external JavaScript for the text you want excluded, use a robots to block the JS.
