A discussion about Yahoo Directory submissions

I normally do not post here, but I thought I would give it a shot.

I have been submitting a site to yahoo for the past 9 months and still nothing. I submit about very other month (as per their instructions).

Is there a way to get them to notice the submission? I have tried typing in the suggestion box, etc. Nothing. I know they say it may take a while, but I was wondering if anyone here has any suggestions. I noticed someone mention webmasterworldfeedback@yahoo.com. What is that for exactly? Can you suggest a site that way?

Site is non-profit, very localized to be put in a regional directory. Any Suggestions?

Thanks!

Hi webdude, does your site have inbound links? If it does, and it's still not listed in Yahoo, you might have a penalty.

Do you appear when people search for the domain but it's just not ranking?

Does your site not appear at all?

First you need to determine whether the site is in the database. Then you have to determine if it's penalized (check inbound links and spidering).

With this data then you can get closer to understanding the problem.

I guess I did not make myself clear. This is for the directory not the web search. The site is returned in the SERPs for the web search via Yahoo. It is placed pretty much as expected.

What I am trying to do is get it listed in the directory.

Thanks for the response!

"Is there a way to get them to notice the submission?"

Pay $299.

I've heard nothing but horror stories on this forum about the submission process. But that is not the point nor the question.

The question is...

Do I even have a chance of being included in the directory without paying the 299? The site is non-profit, does not sell anything, has lots of content, and is fairly popular in it's niche.

I was just wondering what experiences others have had through this so-called "free submission."

And what is the exact purpose of the email address...

That email address has nothing to do with the Directory.

No one can tell you if you will be accepted via free submission. Consider your chances 1 in 100.

That sound fair enough. I guess that meeans 200 months at 1 submission every other month.

Hmmm... Let's see. That would be about 16 and a half years. :-)

That 299 isn't looking that bad after all.

I have a site of online books for widgetography, its pretty much oriented to the science/academic area (its a .org). I did the free submission a couple weeks ago and it is in now.

Webdude,

With the Express Program you pay $299 and we review your site within seven days for the directory. And as a non-profit, you only pay the fee one time.

As for the web address, that's for people who have questions about Yahoo! Search.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the answer Yahoo_Mike!

But that just guarantees that the site will be reviewed within 7 days right? I mean I can still try for the free submission, it's just with that you are not guaranteeing a review at all.

Do I got this right?

webdude:
You are not the only one. I had no success with free submissions to the Yahoo directory for non commercial sites, no matter how great these sites are, and no matter how hard I worked on the site's description. All they want is money. I think that they don't care about having an inclusive, quality directory.

Out of about 10 sites I've submitted in the last year (via the free submission), I've had exactly one accepted. That one was accepted within 3 days, though.

I really have no idea what sort of criteria they use, but think it may be a bit like the DMOZ where, these days, they only add sites that are unique and add something original, at least through the freebie submit. Just a guess, though.

Two questions:

1) if you have a site accepted to Yahoo! Directory recently, can you identify any specifics about it (especially if you own other sites that weren't accepted)?

examples: .org, some very unique info, largest in the category, other

2) Does having AdSense on your site automatically disqualify you from free submission to Yahoo?

Thanks

Actually aleksl has a good point and a good idea. If we could figure out what exactly they are looking for, maybe we can give them what they want. Gee, maybe only sites submitted on Sunday morning between the hours of 2 and 4am are the ones getting reviewed and accepted.

And if, as previously stated, a site that does get looked at or accepted, is it included relativley fast, like the site that was accepted in 3 days? Maybe we need to submit every 3 days then!

Actually, I would like to know what sets the sites that are accepted apart from those that are not.

What is one to do if you try to submit a site to the directory, and at step 2 it says the site is already listed and it is not?

Just to check I tried to upgrade the same site to a sponsored site and then Y! says it's not in the directory.

I tried the url-support email address & got no response, just sent another one.

Any suggestions for how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.
