How Do You Get a Penalty Dropped?

Is there a trigger that the SE's are looking for?

All of our greatest fear is being penalized by one of the search engines. The hard part is determining if you were penalized. The hardest part is finding out why.

It is my belief that the penalty connot be forever.

It is also my theory that there must be a an auto "trigger" to remove the penalty. I feel that it would be way too hard for the SE's only to remove the penalty manually. There are too many sites out there for them to have to review. Especially when we are talking about the long term +5-10 years down the road.

The possible trigger can be trying to learn what caused he penalty. This gets very hard as none of us truly know what is causing the penalty.

Anoter trigger can be moving the domain to another IP. Or possibly the SE's has placed a specific period of time on the penalty.

Being Penalized by the SE's really sucks. If we were sending email SPAM, there are pleanty of resources to determine if we are being blacklisted.
I too have lost over 80% of my traffic. I have no idea why, but none of my pages are indexed in Yahoo.

I did not see a gradual decrease. Literally overnight, my traffic stopped. Aug 10th-11th.

Does anyone have an idea if they penalize the IP that the domain is using, or the domain?

I find it hard to believe that they penalize the domain forever. What if I were to sell the domain 2-3 years from now. Would that new owner be penalized as well? You can imagine the HUGE number of sites that would never get back in the SERPS becasue of previous owners. Especially YEARS down the road.

It sucks that the SE's are the GODS. Just wish there was a way to determine what we did wrong, why, how, etc.

You could start here [help.yahoo.com] and I agree that these guidelines are subject to interpretation. Building for users (not SEs) first and erring on the cautious side usually avoids penalties.

I agree re: people think they are penalized, but they are not.

I just wish that there was a master list or service available to confrim a penalty and why.

I feel I maybe penalized becuase I cannot find any of my domains in the Y! SERPS. I have had various placement in the SERPS for over 12 months. I have many domains with all unique content. All of a sudden on the 11th of Aug, 80%-90% of my traffic stopped. My level of traffic has been very consistant for the past 4-6 months.

I am totally confused as to what to do.

If you go through that, and still determine that you may be banned, heed Dave's advice and email that address. Some have had luck with it.

IMHO, I don't think emailing this so called "Yahoo Mike"
had anything to do with getting back into the index. In
those cases where someone's site began showing in the Serps shows that it most likely wasn't penalized in the
first place.
