How can one check the ammount of backlinks in yahoo
for a site in geocites:
linkdomain:geocities.com/mysite/
is not working

Could it be that there are no links indexed for your site? Does this command work for other geocities sites?

Yes this comand works for all sites,
and there are many backlinks in google and alltheweb
I just do not know how can one check it in yahoo
