Disappearing from Y!

Any ideas would be gratefully accepted.

3 or 4 days ago we noticed that hits from Yahoo! had virtually stopped. Up until then we had been receiving a couple of hundred hits per day. We've been in the Y! directory for 3 years now.

When we noticed the hits had stopped we did a Site: and found that only 37 of the 5,000 that are found in Google are listed in Y!, yesterday it dropped to 36 and today it's at 2!

When I check the links using linksite: it returns 143 sites.

We haven't changed the site dramatically for a long time now, just adding new pages and some new content.

Why has Yahoo fallen out of love with us? Any ideas?

Any cross-linking?

Came across a similar problem a couple of days ago, the site was heavily cross-linking with very similar ones.

They're still in the directory, but nowhere in the SERPs.

Well 3 of my sites seem to have disappeared. One is new though. Backlinks show up. None have ever been added to the directory.

Having the same problem. Disappeared from SERPS, then 50 or so pages were removed, only 10 in the search now. Don't know why. Emailed yahoo techies and they were completely useless about it too.

If you have been dropped, study your linking structure, you may find the problem there. It appears from our experience, the Yahoo algorithm is very sensitive to cross linking.

my site isn't heavily cross linked though I did notice someone took my domain and placed a link to it on their page ,unauthorized, and that's the only link yahoo has for my site now.

*the Yahoo algorithm is very sensitive to cross linking*

You may have something there Randall, quite recently I've noticed several "demotions" where cross-linking / inter-connecting was a common factor.

We had several sites removed around the time their old Inktomi pay per inclusion submissions expired.

I emailed yahoo and will wait but it would nice to see that this may have occurred to others and found the site was reincluded. The site as a stand alone didn't do much for me even with the Yahoo listing till I built it up and had more keywords so if they don't reinclude it , it's just build more pages on a new domain and it does seem that they spider and add new pages often so I might get my traffic back quickly. On the down side it sets a bad precedent for Yahoo and how they treat webmasters who've paid to be evaluated and included and now they say no we don't want your site in our directory anymore.Webmasters would be wise to not pay and build more pages instead and maybe it might be a glitch in their directory since I read they used Google listings when they had a problem with their own search recently. It might be nice for someone from Yahoo to say something on this since many here contribute to their bottom line.

No offence Hughy1, but to be kicked out of the directory is quite a rarity without having broken the TOS quite seriously.

It doesn't appear to be a serious tos violation at all since the site has been there 3+ years basically the same with new pages here and there ,it's happenned to several people here and also tos violations can be subjective not objective so serious can be reinterpreted in many ways.

Sites often change, what may have been initially acceptable may well have morphed into something that isn't, it's their TOS, their subjective view.

A happy customer/webmaster is often a return customer and wouldn't be nice if there are changes in a tos to relay that to webmasters in an email if it's due to someone literally removing it.

I emailed Yahoo again the other day.

Previous emails from them have been really useless and mostly machine automated replies.

I'll wait to see what happens this time as it's a very serious issue on my end; I also have a new problem with a domain I registered that wasn't happening before, related to Yahoo just going bananas with it...

Crosslinking with in the site is a no-no? or between seperate sites? both?

Thanks for any help.

Our experience has been between sites is the problem. A to B, B to A at a certain ratio to the total inbound and outbound links spells trouble.

I got a response that said my site was still in the directory but I can't find it anywhere and I'm getting no traffic from them , I wonder if they have a cached version of their directory so it appears it's still in when it's not?

I have been noticing sites with a lot of affiliate links, especially ones having CJ links being demoted or thrown out of Yahoo.

Anyone else out there who has observed the same thing?
