Should I wait till the site is in Yahoo before adding in the Adsense scripts?
By the way, as an .org it won't be selling anything. It will just be a content rich site with Adsense adverts.
and dmoz. Its pages are designed to carry Adsense ads. I'd like to ad the Adsense script asap in order to start making money
Off-topic for this forum...BUT - so you submitted this site to DMOZ without the Adsense and then will add the Adsense script after listed. Are you trying to get yourself a ban from DMOZ for a 'bait and switch'?
Does anyone know how long it should take for this site to appear in Y & G? I submitted it last weekend.
Unless there are links to the sites, they won't appear in either search engine. I don't know why people bother submitting sites anymore to Google and Yahoo - it dosen't work and is a waste of time. You get indexed by them if you have links.
Where did I say that? DMOZ has nothing aganist Adsense
What you are doing is submitting a site to DMOZ and them planning on changing it after its been accepted. Thats called 'bait and switch' and could get you banned and labeled a spammer if the site was accepted and then the site is changed to something that is no longer meets the DMOZ guidelines.
Rest assured that DMOZ editors are aware of this tactic, due to the action of many spammy affiliate sites.
I plan to constantly change my site.
not the main topic of my site just content. that includes adding some scripts "adsense" this is not bait and switch.
What do you mean by this statment "planning on changing it after its been accepted"
I am refering to those who are deceptive in order to get a site listed. A site is submitted that gets in under the listing guidelines, then is deliberatly changed to something that would not have been originally accepted (ie the affliate crap gets added after).
Changing a site to improve it is to be encouraged. Deceiveing DMOZ should not be encouraged.
For eg:
In one small category I edit, I added a site that I was in two minds about, as its content was not that unique - it was 'borderline', but it appeared the site was 'non-profit' (it had no source of income)...so I eventually added it after a lot of thought....the day after the category was updated on the public side, Adsense appeared all over the site. I was almost inclined to delist the site as they were obviously trying to deceive - but after I calmed down, I left it there as the original decision to list it was based on the content (which is what the decision should always be based on, regardless of Adsense) -- now since this thread has been reactivated here, I just went and had another look at the site --- now the banners on the site have changed and there are 'placeholders' there ... I wll be watching closely to see if afiliate links start appearing....
This is what I am talking about...
(MODS - we way off-topic in this thread - sorry)
Let me tell you why this is. Google places way to much emphasis on the number of incoming links and not nearly enough on actual content.
So if you have two sites:
1. Site A has so so content but has been around long enough in the early days (before linking fatigue set in) to accumulate many links.
2. Site B is much newer but has far superior content but few if any links.
Guess which one G will rank far higher. Yep, site A.
Yahoo on the other hand will look at actual site content in its determination of your ranking.
I have learned this lesson first hand this year.
I used to be a G fanatic, but this year I began to rely on Yahoo and dmoz for my serious searches.
I do not necessarily disagree with the appraoch taken by G and Y - they both want to differentiate there results from the other and both want to give better results - they are using a different model -- your and my sites may rank differently on each because of this ... the market will decide who got it right.
The people I talk too on other boards are pretty Net savvy and say that these days you get better results on Y or dmoz or even looksmart.
In my area the first page of G's results is filled with old fossil sites which came online in the last century and now have 1000+ incoming links. But their content is absolute crap. They are there to sell you overpriced services and products and nothing else.
When I search the same keywords on any other SE the results are fresher and more relevant.
In aother thread on this site people have complained that G results have deteriorated because many webmasters have been successful at gaming it.
I can't say if that's true. But after being G's biggest fan in 2002-03, I have switched to other SEs for serious searches.
