what is this about paying for xml feed to Yahoo?

i have been approached by a telephone salesman

I have had (yet another) phone call offering me a wonderful service to boost our traffic.

This time it is about xml feeds to search engines, specifically, he said, Yahoo. The deal is that you pay per click.

How does this work? Is it worth pursuing or a con? I am always suspicious of any telesales people.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Basically this is the old Inktomi Trusted Feed with the additional reach of Yahoo!, AltaVista and Fast all combined into a single XML feed structure.

Aimed at sites which (being very general) have 1,000 plus URLs.

It is available from Overture directly or from around 20 different partners.

Whilst pricing is per click, there may be (emphasis on may) a price to build the feed, especially if the anticipated number of clicks is quite low.
