A client's site is receiving dramatically different rankings in these two Yahoo!s and I'd sure like to know why. The site ranks pretty well in Yahoo.com, but although its in uk.yahoo.com's index (and can be found in a search on the domain name restricted to UK sites and its in the Yahoo! Directory, so Yahoo! seems fully aware of its location), its not in the top 100 for its keywords whether or not I ask for UK-only sites. The kicker is that a second domain (site B) owned by the same client (for essentially the same business) which she uses to showcase special merchandise privately. Oddly, Site B ranks well occasionally for the same keywords in uk.yahoo.com. To my knowledge, the second site is not linked to the first. For that matter, I can't find *any* links to site B from anywhere, and can only guess at how it ever got indexed in the first place.
Mostly I'm interested in any information about the general differences in the geo-targeting and ranking practices. Is Yahoo! UK relying on Inktomi or what? The SERPs say its powered by Yahoo! Search now, but...
If the existence of Site B is the problem, I'll just have to plead her case to Yahoo! I guess. Its just that her business is heavy old household widgets, so the rankings in US yahoo.com aren't a tremendous benefit. Appreciate any insights. Thanks!
