Getting into Yahoo's serps

I submitted my site to yahoo quite some time ago. My site started getting crawled about a month ago, but I've kept checking the serps and it doesn't appear yet.

Today I typed the url into the search box, and it appeared. I then typed site:myurl and 550 pages were listed. But still if I type anything my site might come up for - the name of the site for instance - it doesnt appear.

Anyone know why this might be?

Maybe you just don't rank well for your keywords according to the ranking algorithm at Yahoo.

Sorry, but not apearing first searching for companyname?

Maybe surps is not updated?,

If site is the one in your profile, I see another site with simliardomain, as your-site-words-etc.
do you have several domains with 301 redirects?
If so maybe could be the reason..........

i submitted a site to Yahoo yesterday

now come up for a domain search ("domain.com") but its not listed for the site name in the 8 or so results.

no sign of Yahoo robots except for something called "CrawlConvera0.1 (CrawlConvera@yahoo.com)" in my robots stats

kind of interesting.

No, the 'my-site-words' site is an offshoot of my business that we recently sold. The content is completely different. The only similarity is that it has our logo on it and relates to a similar industry.

My thinking (and hope) is that perhaps in yahoo your site is indexed but then appears in the serps at a later date. My site ranks pretty well in google, and my other sites have similar rankings in yahoo to their ones in google.

I dont think its that as I rank highly elsewhere. Plus if you refine a search enough then you have to come up eventually. No matter how specific I make the search to my site I still dont come up (e.g. keyword1 keyword2 mysitename uk etc..)

I could be way off base here, wouldn't be the first time.

I was searching Yahoo for my keywords when it occurred to me that Y! was giving me the keywords to use. Just below the search bar is a Related list. It will end with "More...", usually. Click More, then click Show All and that, to me, looks like what I should be targeting to Yahoo. Since G doesn't seem to concern itself with the keyword meta tag, making it Y! friendly with their list makes sense to me (and maybe only me). Content built upon that list wouldn't hurt either.

Silent_Bob,

I have the same problem with a long standing site (in my profile). I note that your site is a .com site hosted in the UK as is mine. I suspect that this may have something to do with it.

In my case I can get no response to keyword seaches at search.yahoo.com or UK Yahoo search, but I do get results for keyword searches from Yahoos at Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Korea. It would be interesting to know if you can as well.

I also have an old Inktomi Pay For Inclusion page, but I suspect that it is the UK hosting that is the problem. Perhaps we are filtered out of the UK-only search results because we are not .co.uk, but are also filtered out of the web wide search because of the hosting. I have raised this several times, but am still baffled.

Re what I suggested:

I tried searching for your site in the Far Eastern yahoos, but no response, so perhaps the reason I show up there is because I have some pages in Chinese. Although I can find all my English pages as well.

However I still think the problem with UK and US searches has something to do with UK hosting.

I'm not sure thats the case. Other sites I have and I know others to have do appear for UK only and worldwide searches.

Does Yahoo have a contact e-mail for webmaster enquiries?

The address I used is webmasterworldfeedback@yahoo.com.

If you know of other .com sites hosted in the UK that get Yahoo traffic the problem seems unlikely to be due to the reason I suggested. But the only other reason I can think of (in my case) is because I have an Inktomi PFI page.

According to Yahoo my site had not acquired a penalty, and as I get some traffic from Yahoo in the Far East, but none at all from the UK or the US, I assume regions have something to do with it. Like you, all my pages are in the Yahoo index, but do not appear for keyword searches (except in the Far East).

I have raised the matter with Tim, but so far no response.

Yahoo index is confusing.......depending how you search for it,
If you use, more pages from this site, I think, and many others that could be google filling up, though penalized sites have all their pages in index without being spidered and not showing up in serps.

but if your site shows up in serps for some regions, shouldn´t be penalty I supose.........
