Yesterday received e-mail from yahoo asking if I wanted to be on top as number one result for my keyword.

Does they send this e-mail to all websites?
supose so, though seem authomatic, received 3, one for each e-mail account on the web. If so isnīt that spam?

Or do they send them only to selected sites?

Was it really from Yahoo? Was it from their corporate domain yahoo-inc.com?

That's true. It may be best to wait for an answer from Tim or Yahoo Mike then.

Of course it isnt from Yahoo. We have really dropped this forum to a new low discussing if email spam is a hoax or not.

Sorry if being stupid, but I do think the same I report my site is not showing in serps, as well I ought to report when somebody is making bad and ilegal use of yahoos or anybodys else name.
If yahooīs not interested, maybe people reading here that is not that familiar with these kind of hoax or whatever wants to know what these e-mails means.
webmasterword is very well positioned in serps.... most people reading posts here are not big SEOs

Tim, your post seems a little harsh. Many readers of this site will be able to tell if an email is genuine but many will not. I think a public forum where technical issues are discussed is a perfectly reasonable place to ask about such issues.

With the recent changes in the SE market these emails are bound to be circulating but a response like the one you made can hardly serve to encourage this kind of query and, in turn, knowledge.

Surely info on these matters can only be a good thing for all concerned?

I've had this email forwarded to me by several clients who thought it was genuinely from Yahoo and wanted to know if they should sign up to it. Quite possibly some of the clients who haven't forwarded it to me with a query may have replied to the email to find out more about the service... hopefully they haven't paid anything.

It probably looks quite convincing to someone who doesn't have a nasty suspicious nature....

Honestly,
the idea makes more sence to me than site match......
what I thought strange was yahoo sending e-mails.., instead of having publicity on their site.

My first thought was if this e-mail was only sent to penalized sites.... maybe somebody to cleaver that figured out how to knew which ones.

LOL. I think that it could be some "disgruntled" employee's last act before leaving the company. Just a wild guess.

What are you folks talking about, anybody can get a Yahoo.com email address. I've got 3 of them for different purposes. I could be PresidentBush@yahoo.com if I was so inclined. These spammers can and are deceptive -- that's their job.

Moral:
You can't judge and email by the domain it was sent from.
