Optimizing pages for Yahoo! and Google is now the same?

aren't they closer than Fast/Ink/AV were?

Despite all takeover mess and the testing phase going on, I am noticing very little difference between G and Y! as far as factors determining ranking are concerned. Perhaps I am focusing only on non competitive keywords. Set aside page rank, do you think that there are still important differences in the way single page optimization determine ranking?

spaiderman, u say the results on google and yahoo take same optimization. i dont see that. ever since florida google has been real heavy on the filters, banning sites with instances of keywords. we had a site in google that was on the first page for over a year, then after florida it dropped like and rock, hasnt been back since. yes that same exact site is number 4 on yahoo and msn. keep in mind this iste is a very content rich site. i have seen no similarities with google and yahoo at all, yet some people say they see it. plz enlighten me, as i would love to be dominating google once again.

We see them as being very different right now.

Some pages which are number one and number two for hundreds of search terms on Yahoo now are on page two or three of the results for Google.

Some pages which are number one on Google show up on Yahoo at higher than number 30 and sometimes not at all for the same search terms.

I should have pointed out that I was referring only to websites that survived Florida updates. Indeed, those who were affected apparently are OK for Yahoo as much as the survivors. I have to do further research

Different. One of my sites is probably "overoptimized" for current G, and the pages went down, but at the same time some of them've risen in Y. up to top #5-#10 (a couple are now ##1 - but these aren't in highly compet. area).

That's maybe the key, overoptimized. Pages too good for G are OK for Yahoo!

thats exactly it, we have a few sites that survivied the google florida update, and those sites have 1 or 2 instances of the keyword on the page(thats it), which makes it hard to believe that u can sell a product with out using the keyword in the copy, lol, just makes no sense to me.

Yep, very different results on G and Y for me, too.

Former #1-5 G sites are #15, #24, or gone from Google. In their place are yellowpages, commerical generic directories, and off-topic pages that accidently stumble over a keyword.

The same sites are strong in Y!, as, IMHO, I think they should be.

Sorry, But I survived Florida, lost position 1 page, went back to my position 1 week after Florida update, and yes, I am (was) banned by Inktomi.
Itīs funny..

My site ranks #1 for the selected keywords in Yahoo!, but ranks #60 for the same keywords in Google.

However, after the recent backlinks/PR update, it may start ranking well in Google too..

Out of our sites we've got a definite split between Yahoo and Google results. The ones that are still on the first page in Google are in the top 20 in Yahoo, but the sites which have been buried by Google (all holiday related) are doing really well in Yahoo. The three which have been really trashed by Google are all sitting at #1 in Yahoo for competitive keywords. These are small, holiday related sites which have been written with the visitor in mind and the only SEO at all is an attempt to make the title, description and content relevant for the search terms.

I'm using AV/Yahoo for all my searches now even if they may not be as up to date as Google, 'coz I have to assume that if Google has lost so many WW members sites then there's a good chance it will've lost any sites which are relevant to my search as well.

258cib, that's a great tool. I think it confirms just how different they are, at least for the terms I follow - CITY or CITY COUNTRY.

It also shows how many frustrated webmasters there must be out there. . .

Ah, I'm also interested in City/State.

It drives me mad that Yahoo and Google, both, have different results for city/State and city/Two-letter code.

Interestingly, this new web news service, Topix, net, is really come up on the ranking rapidly on the middle and small market cities I watch.
