I came across this page today. I haven't heard anything about it, and when I type in the URL from the picture, I get a "page can't be displayed".

[onion.com...]

I'm kind of skeptical.

The Onion is the leading news parody/satire web site out there, and this "article" is funny!

In other words, it's a joke....

Wow... That's what I get for not taking the time to read the rest of the site to see it's context.

Thanks for clearing the air of the stench of onions.

Heh... that is good.

"[In the past] a soul search often required backpacking trips across Europe, disastrous long-term relationships with incompatible lovers, and years of expensive therapy," Semel said. "Worse, the search process often included depression, lowered self-worth, and intense doubt."
[...]
"After using the Yahoo soul-search engine, conducting the self-examination process without a computer will seem as ridiculous as doing accounting in old-fashioned ledger books."

It's refreshing to read parody that's both funny and shows an accurate insight into an online event (Google's new additions) that's pretty obscure and almost meaningless to most people.

As much as it may be tied to Google's recent announcements, I think it's more closely tied to Yahoo's plans to start a new advertising campaign tomorrow. They'll be calling themselves a "life engine". Ahem.

And yes, the TV spots will still end with the yodel....

Yahoo has had personalized search for a long, long time.

I think a "soul search" feature didn't make the cut for April Fool's for two years now. Guess somebody else got the idea. :)
