From the overture site,
[content.overture.com...]

Yahoo! leverages the Open Directory Project (ODP) to further improve the user experience on distribution partner sites. ODP title, description and category meta data is used to enhance Yahoo!'s relevant search results.

That was also on the Inktomi site. It's not new.

Looks like this has been in the works for about half a year.

They use ODP titles and descriptions in SERPs when they don't have a site in their own directory.

It is really just using the title and description when no other text or abstract is available.

It's just like Google - DMOZ is a link of authority. A link that's trusted - and a link that can be very hard to get.

If yahoo gives it the same weight as google, DMOZ will become the driving force behind 95 percent of all successful rankings. That's scarry when you consider how many catagories are not staffed and how many submission are ignored or shuffled until lost at DMOZ.

I don't see DMOZ carrying any ranking weight at yahoo at this point - hope it stays that way.
