Yahoo Directory. Another Inktomi Situation?

Yahoo silences bother me now ....

Two months ago, silence from Yahoo wouldn't bother me. They don't have to announce everything their planning as this would take away their 'edge'. But I don't like the way they handled the Inktomi situation and it's stopping me from purchasing a directory listing.

As I'm in the UK, the Yahoo Directory could actually provide some traffic due to the lack of crowded categories. I've been put off, however, by the fact that Yahoo said 'Inktomi will be included in Yahoo Search' only to turn around on the day and say, 'Well, we didn't mean THAT part of Inktomi'.

So far we have been given nothing concrete by Yahoo (or 'Tim' as he's affectionately known round these parts) as to whether the Directory will be staying. But more importantly, how long they will be staying.

If I pay now, they are well within their right to dump the whole directory in one months time with no refund to me. The fact that they haven't said they will do this is what's leading me to believe it is a possibility. Anyone got any threads or articles that can set my mind at ease?

Yahoo Mike pointed out in another thread that the directory would not be discontinued.

At the moment there don't seem to be any guarantees though. I'm submitting a couple of sites to the directory that I think might be able to generate traffic as it might be a way into the main database without having to pay the CPC cost.
