I posted a while back in another thread about this problem:
[webmasterworld.com...]

Here was my previous post:

In the Pure Inktomi results, i have seen several of my affiliate links showing up in the serps. A few of them have actually knocked my #1 listing down to #2. While it's nice to have both of the top two spots, i worry about duplication penalties. Google obviously filters most of these out. Why isn't Inktomi doing it?
I have no idea how some of these affiliate links are showing up above mine. In one case, the only mention of the keyword on the whole page is in the affiliate link on the affiliates website.

I would hate to see the inktomi serps filled up with affiliate links. In theory, you could see the entire first page with the same website listed but with different URL's.

While this is good news for those in the affiliate game, it is bad news for everyone else. I hope mine is an isolated case. I also hope Inktomi is smart enough to see that this is not intentional spam.
...............

Here are my most recent comments, since Yahoo dropped Google:

I am still having this problem with the Yahoo serps. On some of my keywords, I hold 4 out of the top 6 positions. I have a Yahoo Store, so yahoo has the following url's for my homepage:

[shop.store.yahoo.com...]
[store.yahoo.com...]

The first is my store with the Yahoo shopping cart options on the top of the page. The second is without the shopping cart options. I never submitted either url to the search engines, but they were spidered by most engines automatically. When i submit to search engines I use:

[MY-WIDGET-DOMAIN.com...]

On most of my best keywords on Yahoo/Ink, I am showing up in the listings for all 3 URL's in the top 5 listings. Google was smart enough to realize that these were all the same domain. To make matters worse, some of the affiliate URL's that i have given out, are also showing up on the first page. In some instances, my site is listed 4 or 5 times in the first ten results. Obviously, this makes me happy. However, I am worried greatly about a duplication penalty. This was not caused by me SPAMMING the system. I see it as a flaw in Inktomi. So far, I haven't seen any penalty, so maybe I should just leave well enough alone, but it really worries me.

Anyone else have this problem?

It may not help you, but no, I have never had that problem with Yahoo/Inktomi. I DID have that problem with Google though, they were creating duplicates of my pages that had affiliate ID's and I ended up being dropped into the ranking black hole for spamming. I have always found Inktomi to be quite good at sorting out duplicates, are all the pages in the top 10 that you described exactly the same content?

Yes, same content on the affiliate links. Also, same content with wwWebmasterWorldidgetdomain.com and store.yahoo.com/mywidgetdomain

But, the listing for shop.store.yahoo.com/mywidgetdomain has the Yahoo Shopping links across the top, so this page is slightly different than the rest, but 99% the same.

so, my positions look something like this:

#1 = http//shop.store.yahoo.com/mywidgetdomain
#2 = http//store.yahoo.com/mywidgetdomain
#3 = competitor
#4 = http//mywidgetdomain.com
#5 = http//store.yahoo.com/cgi-bin/clink?MYWIDGETDOMAIN+98cqhj+index.html

All 5 top positions are my site except #3

#2, #4 and #5 are all identical sites.
#1 is almost identical except it has the Yahoo Shopping links on the top right of the page.

I wonder if the affiliate in position #5 submitted the link for PFI in INK?

In any case, i would think that INK could tell that these sites are the same, and only show one. I really do like dominating like I am, but it wouldn't be worth getting a penalty. I am having the same problem in MSN, so i'm sure the problem lies with INK.

4crests:

I have not experienced this myself, but I see multiple instances of what you are experiencing across many different keywords.

I personally don't think you will be given a penalty. I would hope they will eventually cull through and remove the duplicates - like other search engines attempt to do. Until then, it does look a bit spammy.

Do you use I anyone to submit to INK or have all these URLs been found by the free crawler?
