I submitted my hobby site about 4 months ago and I still haven't been added. Is it just me or does it seem like very few pages are added for free anymore?

I've had a few sites added, but they were submitted through asia.yahoo.com Perhaps you could try submitting there? They even sent email notification when the sites were added. Also, since it's been 4 months, you could try re-submitting.

Does a site have to be related to Asia to be submitted through asia.yahoo.com?

Thanks!

Last year I managed to get quite a few through as free submissions, although this year I have not been so lucky.

It used to be clean cut commercial/non comersial. Now a lot of areas seam to be falling into a grey area.

I had a couple of sites free-listed over the summer, one very promptly. Seems to be luck of the draw.

I've had a lot of sites listed recently for free. There's a lot of luck involved. If your are very topical, something in the news, it is easier.

Has everyone who has been successful done so in recent memory(2002-2003)?

Yes I had my site added about 3 months ago, It took about 2 months from when I submitted. I added mine to yahoo.co.uk and it went into that and yahoo.com at the same time.

I have had a number of sites listed for free this year. The key is unique content I believe.

Just try to get listed with Google. Thats where most of your traffic will come from. Yahoo displays the same results as Google anyways. For now.

Yahoo directort gives you links, which help you do better in Google.

In fact it gives you multiple useful links. The various Yahoo sites have sufficient PR that they can transfer some of it to you, unlike the DMOZ clones (apart, of course, from directory.google.com). My listing in Yahoo gives me six links that show in a Google link command. For DMOZ I have two, one from DMOZ and one from Google. The zillion other clones do not show up.

Is listing in the yahoo directory count still like a link and gives PR? I see some changes in the link syntax: yahoo first and then the url.
