Our site has two entries in the ODP, one submitted, and the other just stumbled across and entered by an editor, (I found out about it by suddenly seeing a hit from the page show up in the logs one day).

With the knowledge of Yahoo changing things in the near future, I submitted to a regional Yahoo category a few days ago, and got an email today saying that it is accepted. The cat page is a Google PR5 with only about 5-6 entries, so it should be good all round.

My question, does Yahoo allow more than one cat submission per site? I could easily find a second category the site would fit into. The ODP seems fine with two entries so I'm wondering...

My apologies for not spending the time using the WW site search instead of posting this... I'm sure the answer has been posted before.

I presume that you did not pay for the listing, therefore if the editor who listed your site is in a good mood he might also add your site into another category - most likely within the regional territory. If not you might want to try your luck in the main directory yahoo.com.

If they find your site interesting they might even get an editors pick.

Good luck.

Thanks, Operafan.

I'm rather ignorant of the workings of the Yahoo directory, (no, didn't pay). I figured that if you were in, then a search done in the directory would show the site and the category itself wouldn't make any difference other than trying to have your site in one that is pertinent and not crowded.

Regional seems to be a newish main division of the directory, along with "Business & Economy", "Computers & Internet" etc. I believe our site is indeed listed in the main directory yahoo.com.

I believe that I would have to submit to a different category and therefore submit to a different editor. I might be wrong.

Yes you can submit it to a different cat, & it depends on which editor will come - from the email they sent you they do have their name on it right?

Once I saw a list on yahoo of the various editor & the cat & regions they look after. But cant seem to find it anymore.

Yes, all regional cats with sites listed will be also listed in the main yahoo directory search, but the lower you get down the regional cats - no PR. So you're lucky that you got listed in the main cats with good PR. :)

Thanks operafan

Yeah, name on the email. I was mostly wondering if there were a rule about only allowing one site in the directory... the index page is the one getting listed. Perhaps I could submit another page, like "News", to a different cat. I just don't want to break some rule that might exist about one domain/one category.

I just checked the cat I'm going into... Google PR5 with only 4 sites listed. I'm hoping it will not only help with Google, but Yahoo as well when they move to Ink and Overture and whatever.... Ink and Overture list the site, so I'm hoping the Yahoo directory listing will consolidate things. About 30% of our traffic comes from Yahoo(Google) right now. When they split from Google, I want the site to be prepared for it.

Sometimes they will list a site in 2 categories if one is Regional and the other is in another non-business area. I don't think it would hurt to try.

Thanks 2_much... I looked in on the thread for a few days and thought it had gone moribund or I would have thanked you earlier.

I saw afterwards that we had gotten 2 or 3 pages in the directory for the listing... one for "what's new", one regional, and one in a cat specific to our organization. I guess the "what's new" one will disappear, but it leaves us with two, so that's great. I perhaps shouldn't push it by asking for another listing, (or maybe ask 6 months from now).
