Whenever one receives new email from yahoo, the subject is shown in the pop-up window when one is notified of the email's arrival. Would be nice if yahoo put a check box in that window such that when one checked it, the email would be IMMEDIATELY DELETED. I can tell when i receive spam 95% of the time through the heading in that box, and if there were a check box programmed in the notification box, 95% of my spam would DISAPPEAR!

Anyone agreeing, should also send this to yahoo. Perhaps if enuf of us spam them, they will react! lol

It's not in Yahoo's interest to make anything easy or quick for you, they want you to work through as many advertising laden pages as possible.

That's why it's a free account!

Sorry.

Has always been my impression about society that if enough people get upset about something, that something gets done, regardless of the initial cost. And there seem to be a lot of people out there in cyberspace as outraged about spam as I am. MOST EVERYONE i speak to of this is perturbed and outraged at the amount of unrequested junk/smut email that arrives daily.

I also read that initially the address is purchased from YAHOO. This belief is seemingly one generally believed. To this I say "BULL", for it is my belief that YAHOO ID's are randomly sent to yours, and my addresses harvested through yahoo. This is done by just putting a few letters in the yahoo search area of messenger, and then seeing how many person's yahoo id's pop up. And of course, once these nefarious individuals have the address the first time, from the first email on, it never stops.

And lest u think this does not work, it does, and furthermore, THIS METHOD has nothing to do with YAHOO's selling of your or my email address, but instead is caused by the ease in which on may harvest these addresses. And when this method is used, Yahoo gets nothing.

Dont believe me? Then go to messenger/tools/manage friends list/search for a friend, and put in the word babe, as i did, and see what you get. I got 200 names immediately, and you can too. Just try it, and then, if you really want a surprise, try it with your YAHOO ID!

When you stop and think of how many names are out there capable of being harvested in the games, the chat rooms etc. Yahoo can perhaps sell them, but ask yourself - why would people buy from YAHOO when they can pay a person $10 an hour to get THOUSANDS of names. And if they had someone in India, or Mexico do it, perhaps they could get it done for $1 an hour. Think about it.

It is my understanding also that in addition to the above method of getting addresses, much of the email that comes through yahoo to a person, once the name is harvested, is caused by as little as ONE click of the mouse at the bottom of the email, which generates not the desired removal of the email address, but instead, the verification of that email address.

Furthermore, once it is randomly generated to hit and then re-hit the sending site and in doing so, is verfied, the marketability of same becomes tremendous. I read that this takes place generally through passing of the email address around from one marketer to others who will pay for the address, over and over.

So given the above, WHY NOT try this - innundating YAHOO with the suggestion that YAHOO put an active check box that will automatically send that particular message straight to the trash. If enough get upset, and enough make YAHOO, and the rest of the net aware of the ease of getting the names anyway, (the marketers already know this) then YAHOO will be forced to do something to keep their customer base. For YAHOO makes money off of far more than selling a few YAHOO IDs to companies that can harvest the names through other means.

Now give me yet another argument so i can once again shoot it down. And after all the discussion, perhaps we will, as a group, bombard YAHOO with the requirement that they place this live check box on the 3 x 5 email notification box which currently pops up when an email is received.

I await your response, and I hope this at least gets a few of you upset, and mad, and all the rest that goes with it, and you join me in getting YAHOO to do this small thing.

I agree that it would be great to be able to delete emails from your yahoo account without actualy having to go there. I think yahoo should think about adding this as a premium service but as dmorison stated yahoo dont get paid a dime to help you, they do however get paid big bucks by their advertisers when you visit their pages. Have you seen the size of the advert that appears when you empty your inbox.

It's actualy a very clever advert that yahoo place in this zone. If you empty your inbox the page refreshes and you usualy need to click on the page somewhere to use that browser window. I recon a lot of people will click on this advert simply because of where it is placed.

If you're really interested in reducing the amount of UCE/SPAM in all our mailboxes, might I suggest attending (or at least read about) the huge FTC Forums that are going to be taking place at the end of this month in Washington, D.C.

listening to what u are saying and so since i am not a hacker, perhaps someone out there could write a program that would:

1. place an active check box on the new emails as they arrive, and,

2. cause that email, once the active check box was checked, cause the email that it is attached to to go to the trash.

3. Sell the program. Bet I would pay for it! And if i would, others would also. Only prob would be getting it so that yahoo couldnt sue! lol Cus they would for sure, and they would have programmers that would be working on blocking ur programming. lol

Oh well, worth the thought anyway.

I think what I said was quite clear. You came to the boards with a major complaint that started out talking about UCE/SPAM and instead of telling you what you wanted to hear, which is how to modify Yahoo! to 'Delete' UCE/SPAM, I suggested something else.

There are just two choices. The Ostrich approach - 'head in the sand' or ProActive appraoch - Aggressively fighting the issue.
