any thoughts on what else could be causing this to happen.
btw, it happened with both web matches and directory listings. the report came via wpg and it said there is a 41 minute delay for that info... press escape to skip.
You're brave :)
Seriously I would recoment you stay away from using anything to automaticaly query any search engine. They like their bandwidth to be used by users to search, not for webmasters to check their rankings. Using your site url is enough to send up the red flags. Just be very carefull.
The Directory [dir.yahoo.com] has a new look as well.
what i dont understand brett, is your comment about
"Many (all?) of the se's have banned wpg where they can identify it."
im not trying to be a jerk, but do you have some documentation on that? i would like to read into it some more.
as far as i know wpg is one of, if not the most widely used submission/ranking report software programs on the market. a lot of seo companies use it for the sole purpose of position reports for clients, as well as many successful businesses that use it alone to get the se positioning they need to run their business.
please elaborate on your comments/information.
WPG has borne the brunt of the anti-seo software war. They took it on the chin from altavista in 99 when alta banned all pages created by wpg. It was widely known that Google banned wpg in 2000. Reports just last month that Fast/AllTheWeb turned off wpg too.
Keep reading, it's all common knowledge to most in the industry. Using se autosoftware is always risky biz as it is against the tos of most (all?) major search engines. That's not to say some isn't somewhat se friendly, just that they all programatically query search engines - that's where there is a problem.
