Is it worth paying 300$ to get listed in PR4 cat?

The only relevant category in Yahoo for my site has only PR4 (google point of view)

Is it sill worth getting that 300$ directory listing? Would there be any noticeable benefit?

For the PR value, a definite no. If you want to buy PR, you should be able to get a link on a PR4 page with few outbound links, and exactly the anchor text you want, for a *lot* less than that. Your only consideration should be Yahoo directory click through value.

If a site has the potential of driving a substantial amount of targeted traffic toward your site, it could be worth it. PR should be looked at as a secondary [yes important] benefit.
In the long run, buying for PR alone, could be a risky investment.

Have you tried submitting to any of the regional Yahoo directories? Yahoo Asia still accepts submissions using the Standard submit.

will it provide traffic all on its own. if not then dont bother as you can get plenty PR4's for nothing.

I'd hold your money for a month or so to see if Yahoo starts using Ink and how they will use it.

You'll here all sorts of ideas about whether or not it's worth it - in reality, it'll depend.

For the PR value - don't bother. If you think you can get traffic to the site, then it's worth it.

There are a few regional that still have free submit available, I'd give that a try first. I had one included that way not too long ago.

As time permits I'm wading through some research papers I ran across that touch on the value of being listed in authoritative directories. I don't know if the concepts are still valid, but as 2_much suggests, depending on what Yahoo does with Ink we might try Express submit for a site.

I'd say no. It's better using other directories or search engines free of charges or the Google AdWords, getting targetted traffic.

I have a few sites that are getting a good amount of traffic straight from the category.

People type the keyword and click on the categories that are returned on top. These sites happen to be listed towards the top of the list (alphabetically) so they get a lot of traffic.

So sometimes it's worth it.
