Plagiarism and Yahoo Directory

...contact Yahoo about de-listing the unethical?

Hi folks,

Quick question... A competitor just launched a site that copies - nearly verbatim - much of our content (not to mention product configuration and pricing). It is a clear case of plagiarism.

This site was recently addedd to Yahoo's Directory. Is there any way to contact Yahoo to have the site de-listed? Or at least some kind of action taken?

What is Yahoo's position on this - and who can you talk to?

Thanks - JaneJane

I went down this road a while back, and yahoo was no help.

Go to the host with a dmca complaint.

Gather evidence that you were using the content first (waybackmachine.org, etc) and then go speek to a lawyer.

triple jane,

this should be NO problem for any 1/2 decent lawyer to pull off.

its amazing the things a letter from a lawyer will do. and make you also CC Yahoo legal team.

I find it interesting that even the slightest whiff of a complaint about copyright issues to Yahoo about a Yahoo store can get the store removed within hours, but if it is a listing in their directory they take no action...

Hmmm......

Jane, you could send them a letter informing them that if they don't remove the content you will follow up with a letter from a lawyer. They may take it down and you won't have to waste money on lawyer fees. If they don't, then you can contact a lawyer.

I don't think Yahoo will do anything about it, but you can definitely get them to remove the plagiarized content.
