Does Yahoo category depth matter?

The most approriate location in yahoo for a new site of mine was

[dir.yahoo.com...]

The PR of this page is 3/10. Does that diminish the fact that it is the only site in its category and highly relevant for a regional search term? Or does a listing in Yahoo give you an automatic boost in google legitimacy?

No. It's nothing but PR. The only advantage of a Yahoo listing to another link with the same amount of PR transferred might be in the guaranteed fast indexing of yahoo cats.

As to the cat having keywords in the description...Not sure if that accounts for much at this point. In ODP I would prefer the cat with keywords in the cats name. With Yahoo I would try and do the math: cat PR/number of listings and go for the higher count.

You can always try for the higher cat and if the editor won't buy it they'll move you to the other one - win/win situation :-)

Good to know stuff.

I'd assumed that being in Yahoo gave you a certain automatic PR boost on Google.

I'd also assumed that being in the right category mattered, as Google or some of the other search engines used the keywords from those categories to "theme" your site.
