Also, take note of the Adwords style Overture ads on the right. Anyone else see this today?

The web page results are a 1-to-1 match with Google.

They do match google.
The adds on the side is what caught my attention. They are learning, it's about time. No little red arrows for the categories either.

Yeah, I noticed the red arrows were gone too.

Do the search now, and notice the title of the #1 result is the same as it's Yahoo directory title, not it's on-the-page title. Same site as in the .jpg search, but interesting...

As far as I know, the Y! search have always turned up the Yahoo directory title if the page is in the Y! directory for 6 months of more. If its not in the Y! directory it returns the "on-page" title as normal.

The web page results are definitely not a 1-to-1 match with Google on my computer today, but they're also not even close to an exact match with Inktomi.

This "now you see it, now you don't" type scenario is very common with Yahoo. Historically they have done split run testing with major design and algo changes by tagging certain user computers with a cookie and then serving them different results.

If you're seeing something different than what the majority are reporting, take a screen shot, delete all your Yahoo cookies, and then try again.

This will often yield entirely different results.

My observation has also been that in nearly every instance, these limited trial results have been a very clear crystal ball into what lies ahead.

They did the same selective testing for Google as primary SERP provider, and the downgrading of the Directory, for months before it was rolled out to the world at large.

My bad, I was comparing them to the existing Yahoo! listings (without the new "yellow box" format). The results are also very similar to Inktomi results on HotBot. All apologies...

One thing is for sure Google will not be in the index when the deal with Inktomi is done.

steveb, are there "Vegas odds" we don't know about? :)
Yahoo believes in owning products and charging for their use. Paying Google is not in the cards.
