I'm getting an additional search box, more central and lower down than the usual one with the text as in the title next to it.

>central and lower down

Not seeing it here, NF. There's a searchbox for hotjobs roughly where you're describing.

Yeah I see the HotJobs box as well.
Oh wouldnt it just be a dream come true if they switched back to normal directory results again, haha.

Try navigating to a directory cat, then run a search, should be one there on the results page.

Nope, went to travel, searched on Las Vegas. Nothing even remotely like your topic line.

I am seeing something similar to what is being described at the bottom of the SERPs. It is a box that allows you to:

1) modify your search
2) Search other engines (ask jeeves, AltaVista, and more)
3) offers related searches
4) Search Yahoo! Shopping, Auctions, and News

A special box on:
[search.yahoo.com...]

Find exactly what you want with Yahoo! Search:

but not on:
[search.yahoo.com...]

I've noticed a lot more referrals from search.yahoo.com/bin/search which that new search box sends people to. Maybe a good old beta test is going on....

It seems like a simple *marketing* trick.

I believe many users might be using Yahoo for searching (or gathering more info) about new/other search engines and so when someone types in the search portal name, then yahoo will promote their own service and in a way tell them, that they can find it all at Yahoo only, why to go somewhere else?

1) [search.yahoo.com...]
2) [search.yahoo.com...]

3) [search.yahoo.com...]
4) [search.yahoo.com...]
5) [search.yahoo.com...]
6) [search.yahoo.com...]
7) [search.yahoo.com...]
8) [search.yahoo.com...]

After they track it through here;

[rd.yahoo.com...]

Maybe reading too much into the URL but the diy part really caught my eye.

This must be a pc thing: I am not seeing the new search box at all on any of the links you all have provided.

RC, NFFC, what OS are you running? I don't see these extra search boxes on Mac OS 9.x or Win 95 (through Virtual PC).

I've got NADA. If not an os thing, must have been a test yesterday, because it is not there today.

Possible goal is to keep everyone within Yahoo so you dont need to actually leave their site. More impressions, more advertisement served and so forth.

I think they are testing this one, as few hours before it was not there and not it is there. :)

I used the search box on the page NFFC pointed out and got a page with this:

Skip to Web Matches Section (Yahoo!'s Web Matches are powered by Google)

It's an anchor link to further down in the page.

Wow. Looks like they are thinking of keeping Google.

Or use nice psychology :)

First make all the yahoo surfers realize that they don't need to go to Google anymore (cuz, we all know Yahoo played a big role in making google #1 ), so once people start thinking that they can Google results on Yahoo, then lets not go to Google. After this, Yahoo will stop promoting google, and then they will go pure INK.

P.S.. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out why would Yahoo buy Ink. (not unless they actually plan to use it)
